Active/Mass Shooter Response

Our CTAMS programs are designed to train citizens and law enforcement officers who wish to dramatically improve their ability to counter, eliminate and ultimately survive an active/mass shooter event.

Lesson 1

Data Analysis

Few events have been studied as deeply by law enforcement and psychologists as active shooter events. The very thought of an active shooter is rightfully terrifying to the average person.

However, the data collected gives us the ability to demystify these events and enables us to take concrete steps to thwart a shooter and save lives. This block of instruction presents the facts that drive the actions we will practice in the second lesson.

Lesson 2

Run-Hide-Fight

“Run-Hide-Fight” is the three-word phrase adopted by the US Department of Homeland Security to summarize what you should do in the event of an active shooter event. While it is simple to remember, it’s critically important to think through what actions you might take and practice them before hand.

This is what we call “talk through, walk-through”. We will walk and talk through the practical application of “Run, Hide, Fight” and help you to develop an emergency action plan.

Lesson 3

Stop The Bleed

In an active shooter event, bleeding is the #1 cause of death. In response to the unnecessary deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the American College of Surgeons developed a short primer on how to stop bleeding for every American citizen.

This fast moving class gives you an excellent down and dirty introduction to stopping bleeding and saving
lives.

A/MSR-1

Basic Response

  • Base fee includes 250miles of travel (round-trip), additional fees may apply.
  • Maximum participants is 35 students.
  • Lesson 1 (90min): Data analysis & lessons learned
  • Lesson 2 (90min): The Run-Hide-Fight response training
  • Lesson 3 (90min): Stop The BleedTM medical training

The A/MSR Level 1 course of instruction is an introduction to active/mass shooter events. We teach you the unvarnished facts of what actually happens during these incidents, how the event unfolds, and the lessons learned from studying every mass shooting in the United States and abroad for the past 50 years. We then walk and talk through counter measures, the “Run-Hide-Fight” response method and how to properly execute the methodology.

We then teach you the single most important medical skill required in active/mass shooter events: how to Stop The Bleed. This quick primer will enable you to stop bleeding and save lives. By the end of this course, you will understand the odds of encountering this type of event. You will know the rate at which these events unfold, and you will know what you need to do to survive the attack. You will also know how to stop bleeding, which is the #1 cause of death in these events.

NON-LETHAL-FIREARMS-TRAINING (NLFT): ADD $100/STUDENT

The NLFT workshop is a 2-hour addition to introduce and build upon foundational skills with a firearm in a safe and controlled environment using non-firearms that simulate near-identical feel, operation, and sensory feedback of traditional firearms. The workshop is limited to 12 participants per session. Training includes up to 300 rounds per person and includes all the equipment you will need. Training topics include ammunition selection, loading/unloading, fundamentals of defensive accuracy, malfunction mitigation, reloads, use of force law, and use of force scenarios.

A/MSR-2

Intermediate Response (*$350/student)

  • Lesson 1 (60min): Review of Level 1 material
  • Lesson 2 (3hrs): Full mission profile “Run-Hide-Fight” scenarios
  • Lesson 3 (2hrs): Medical Interventions – Airway, respiration, drags & carries, patient positioning, and treating for shock & hypothermia
  • Lesson 4 (60min): Methods of fighting back
  • Lesson 5: Capstone exercise(s)

The A/MSR Level 2 course of instruction picks up where phase 1 left off. After a review of phase 1 to include any updates, we move straight into practical exercises where students respond to a wide variety of simulated attacks.

Each response is evaluated, and students are able to use the feedback to improve on the next iteration. Following this we move into additional medical training that will give you the skills to counter the second highest cause of death in shootings and how to further care for an injured patient.

From there we dive into the best ways for small groups to fight back against an attacker. Finally, we spend the last hour doing 1-2 capstone full-mission-profile exercises where students will use all the skills they have learned during simulated attacks. Clients may also elect to conduct force-on-force training if desired as a part of this course using firearm simulators.

A/MSR-3

Armed Response Qualification (*$3500/student)

There are many schools, businesses, government offices and private citizens who recognize that the best way to stop an active shooter is to respond with force. However, it is our professional position that an armed responder must have a level of skill that meets or exceeds that of a law enforcement officer given the risk and liability associated with an armed response.

The A/MSR Level 3 course of instruction does exactly that. This qualification course exceeds the shooting skills standards of all state law enforcement academies and includes a great deal of material from the special operations community. We maintain that this is the only way to develop competent armed responders capable of acting appropriately under duress in accordance with state and federal laws. This course includes marksmanship, modern structure clearing, active shooter response drills, difficult scenario exercises, shoot-no shoot scenarios, medical training, improvised weapons training, force-on-force training, and more. This course may be taught over 5-6 days or three consecutive weekends. This is a highly intensive and immersive course and students should be physically fit to fight.
